Cape Escape

This family has a wonderful summer home on Cape Cod where they love to host get-togethers for generations of family and friends. After a day at the beach, everyone retreats to the house for some rest and relaxation. Since "R&R" means different things to different people, they wanted to create a multi-media room that would be fun for all guests—from 7 to 70-years-old. For the kids, it was being able to go head-to-head on a killer gaming system. For their older guests, it was about the ultimate theater experience: reclining in the most comfortable premium leather seats to catch the latest release, listening to top-of-the-line audio and viewing visual bliss. And for others, it meant total comfort: curling up in one of the plush upholstered rockers in the back row to melt into their favorite classic romantic comedy.

Sometimes, the movie, big game or music video is just a backdrop for an intimate gathering with friends. For those occasions, the marble-topped wet bar in the back serves as the perfect venue for a night of entertaining.

Process:
At the request of the client, equipment housed in the theater was kept to a minimum. To accommodate this we designed a compact equipment room located adjacent to one of the outside theater walls. The DVD player and the AV controller are the only components located in the room but are hidden in a closet that is concealed behind a "secret" fabric panel door.

All of the speakers, including the subwoofers, were custom fitted behind acoustically transparent fabric panels. To optimize the sound quality in the unsymmetrical room, every audio channel includes a dedicated equalizer section that was acoustically tuned for perfect response.

A circular ceiling cove acts as dramatic focal point reminiscent of a slice into the night sky, while the requisite projection components are cleverly concealed in a custom-designed cabinet above the wet bar with thermostatically controlled ventilators that ensure quiet and efficient performance of the projector.
